Generative Art Summit Berlin

“Herbert W. Franke is a key figure in the history of generative art and computer art in particular. His own artistic contributions, but from an archivists perspective, his writings on this art and his multiple connections to other artists of this art are particularly remarkable.
He is a pioneer, contemporary witness, theorist and historian at the same time. His archive is a seemingly inexhaustible treasure for all those who want to study generative art and its history. I am honored to present the ZKM Archive at the Generative Art Summit of the Foundation Herbert W. Franke.”

Felix Mittelberger studied art history and philosophy at the FAU | Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen, art science and media theory at the HfG | Hochschule für Gestaltung [University of Art and Design] Karlsruhe and archival science at the Fachhochschule [University of Applied Science] Potsdam. Responsible for the Institutional Archives and the Archives of Artists and Theorists, he has been working as the chief archivist at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe since 2018.
