Tribute Project in Namibia

Computer Science Teacher Starts at OPEN DOORS

As part of the cooperation with Tangeni Shilongo Namibia, computer science teacher Sem Amuthitu has started teaching at the OPEN DOORS Education Center (ODEC) thanks to the support of the Foundation Herbert W. Franke. The non-profit organization has been designing and setting up educational programs for children and young people in Namibia since 2015. The school currently offers classes for grades 1 to 3 with 25 children each and has an IT center, a library and homework supervision. In addition, the pupils are served warm, nutritious meals twice a day, all free of charge.

With Sem, the IT course has been firmly integrated into the school curriculum. In addition, computer science courses are offered to interested young people and adults in the region. The primary target group for all services is the residential area DRC (Democratic Resettlement Community), a region with around 40,000 inhabitants in the most basic living conditions and adjacent neighborhoods.

Susanne Paech expressed her delight at being able to support OPEN DOORS as a partner with the tribute donations. She thanked all the artists of the Tribute to Herbert W. Franke for making this project possible together with the Rütgers Foundation. Volkan Sazli, founder of Tangeni Shilongo, added: “We are very happy that we were able to hire a computer science teacher thanks to the Foundation Herbert W. Franke. Through these lessons, we can impart important IT knowledge to young people in our region, which is of great importance for overcoming future challenges in our country.”
