Computer Systems

The Pseudocrystals (Pseudokristalle) series featuring plotting graphics is based on the geometry of the crystal lattice with its various spatial symmetries. Unlike their natural prototypes, the geometric configurations were chosen by the artist at will.  The resulting structures can be seen as designs for free-floating sculptures, which could not be physically realised. The designs were rendered in pseudo-3D (parallel perspective) by superimposing several layers that were assigned different colours.

The graphics were created with the CDM300 software programme developed by Kongsberg with a VAX-11 made by DEC (Digital Equipment) according to the exact specifications of Herbert W. Franke. One motif was produced as a screen print in an edition of 200.
