Also Visiting the Exhibition and the Archive Herbert W. Franke

This year, the Board of Trustees meeting took place at the ZKM Karlsruhe. In addition to the exchange of project ideas and the presentation of the Herbert W. Franke 100 event series, the Board also enjoyed a guided tour by Margit Rosen through the current major exhibition The Story that Never Ends. The ZKM Collection, as well as a visit with Felix Mittelberger to the extensive ZKM Herbert W. Franke Archive. This archive holds many treasures, including correspondence, marketing materials spanning seven decades, Franke’s collection of sci-fi fanzines, project documents, his books, and the doctoral thesis by Mariangela Sala on Herbert W. Franke’s science fiction.
The German studies student earned her doctorate with this thesis at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan in 1975. In the work, she wrote a beautiful dedication to the author of utopian works, who always intended his stories to provide readers not just with an exciting read, but also with a contribution to coping with the future: “The novels of your life are not science fiction, but TRUTH – If people reflected upon them, the world would be much better.”

The film night in the evening showed “A Leap into the Void“, a production of 2026, and gave the board members a first preview of the SYMPHONY OF THE ELECTRONS, and a preview of the complete ASTROPOETICON.
